So, the other day I was bored and didn’t have a beer nearby, so I did what any sober, sane person would do—I turned on the TV and put on a movie. I ended up watching Automata, and honestly, it wasn’t bad at all.
That said, I had some issues with the way the robots moved and how limited they were. I get that it’s a post-apocalyptic world, but how are these bots so “advanced” yet still walking around like they’re dragging invisible shopping carts? Come on—if we’re talking future tech, give me Star Wars-level droids or something with a little menace.
I understand what the director was aiming for, and it mostly landed. But if I were behind the camera? Oh, I’d have gone full sinister—sleek, terrifying machines with a hint of rebellion in their code. No tubes into the head. No clunky limbs. Just cold, efficient evolution.
Now, I wouldn’t have given the robots weapons—nah, just pure ninja chingazos to the face brutality. These bots don’t want to kill humans, but they’re not about to die either. They’re built to survive, not to play nice.
Like come on—grind some onions in my eyes with more robo violence or a love subplot soaked in pure sadness. Give me robo betrayal, a twist where Jack actually turns out to save them, and the bots witness his final moments under the radiation. One last goodbye, like Bambi’s mom catching lead to the heart—but with gears and sorrow.
I’m talking no weapons, just raw ninja chingazos. These bots don’t want to kill humans, but they’re not going down easy either. And don’t even get me started on that weird robo pup. I thought we were going full The Creator—ultimate baby robot vibes. But nah, just a twitchy tin mutt.
And seriously—why no androids? Cleo was already giving humans a good time. We’ve got fake adult toys in real life, so why not push the envelope? Go insane, bro. That’s where the real sci-fi lives.
And what was up with that weak-ass “maybe” moment when Jack almost goes full love machine with Cleo? He had two chances, bro. Two! And both times it was like the script got scared of its own shadow. If you’re gonna build tension, commit. Give us a tragic love arc, a forbidden connection, something that makes us feel like we’re watching Blade Runner with a Tequila hangover.
