Into the Void Chapter 1

I still remember the horrendous heat accosting us the whole afternoon. We were outside playing with toy cars in the shade like every other kid. Lalo just had to come around and ruin that day for me. Well, he ended up ruining it for himself as well.

Lalo came over and hit me upside the head. I felt the pain from his tight fist hit me right behind the left ear. The loud sound and the pain disoriented me for a brief moment.

“Don’t hang around with this guy, I’m your best friend,” he told my friend as he sat down and put his left arm around his back, resting it on his shoulders.

I’ve never been the type of kid to sit idly by when confronted by certain unpleasant situations. I sobbed a bit, tears rang down my cheeks as I walked into the classroom. Without any minor hesitation I went to the fireplace and grabbed a log. I didn’t give it much thought, I just simply reacted and followed through.

Lalo was still sitting outside with my friend, and both of them were playing marbles now. I crept up behind him and swung that log down onto his head as hard as I could. He screamed from the top of his lungs and held onto his head. It must have felt very painful as it was painful to see all that blood dripping down his bubble head.

I knew what would happen next. The kids would go on and tell the teacher who would then tell the principal and my parents. The only logical thing I could think of at that moment as a 4 year old boy was to run away as if my problems would disappear.

I turned around and ran as fast as I could. When I came up on the gate I climbed it like a fierce gorilla escaping captivity. I went down the hill which had no pavement. I kept running without looking back, looking as the people who went about their business turned towards and me and pondered what the hell was going on.

What can I say, I was a wild kid back then. I could say that even know I still have that continuity and rebellious nature inside me. But back then, I thought I could easily get away from all my problems, and boy was I so wrong.

I went to my house and jumped the fence, a tall thick fence of probably 10 feet in length. I didn’t have any keys to get in so I jumped the back brick wall and hid in the other lot my father had bought, which he used to store all of his materials for welding.
